For the Record

What Happened to Partnership?

“Your active participation in your child’s education is essential. We encourage you to be a partner in the educational process.”

— Worcester Public Schools, Kindergarten Report Card Message, 2002-2003

That is exactly what I did.

For my son, right here in Worcester—I stayed involved. I asked questions. I showed up. I advocated.

What I learned was that Worcester Public Schools never truly wanted a partner.

They wanted someone quiet. Someone who wouldn’t question them. Someone who wouldn’t hold them accountable.

They thought if they ignored me, I’d give up. That I’d back down.

When it came time to hold the system accountable, they weren’t ready—because when the system leans on power, I lean harder on purpose.
